Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy in the Workshed šļøšøš„
Fishman Fluence as stock, brushed chrome hardware, Ebony board š everything is great, except the fretwork! This is the second Prophecy I've had over the last few months with both suffering from poorly seated, machine pressed frets...unfortunately this seems to be the norm for Epiphone in recent years, keeps the costs down I suppose. The neck angle seems as though the tenon was set a little high, and the Qingdao factory QC setup to go with the aforementioned issues left little to be desired with playability and had major fret-buzz over most fretted notes.
First off, once the strings were removed I needed to straighten out the neck before checking over all the frets for high and low points, this model seemed to have high points towards the top and bottom of the frets rather than the middle. I've levelled, crowned and dressed to the correct radius, before a Setup with 10's, 0.15" neck relief.
The nut is measuring 0.5mm higher than my usual 'happy place' but I'm aiming for the perfect amount of acceptable rattle and clarity, for those of us who play at low volumes and don't want many unsightly distractions whilst practicing āļø
