This Gordon Smith had a headstock refinish at the Fretbuzz Workshed - A previous owner had attempted a binding scrape on the matching headstock and my client requested a new decal with a natural wood finish. The Manchester made GS were known for cobbling wood together (not a bad thing) so I wasn't sure what we'd find under the finish, turned out to be a 4-piece Birdseye Maple headstock, sat under a thick veneer with some sort of paper decal. I've made a new waterslide and finished with Poly lacquer, sanding back through grades for a professional finish with no lines around the new decal.
