The Affinity series have come a long way over the years, not as far as their Squier CV and next level up counterparts, but still a few improvements to when I was a kid when these were the only affordable guitars around. The improvements are in the neck carve and fretwork (although unfinished and not polished out) the usual mini pots, import switches etc remain.
This one visited the workshop for switching issues and bad intonation. When checking continuity it was obvious the switch was starting to fail, which I've replaced with a high quality Oak Grigsby 5-way. The tone pots weren't functioning correctly and I've had to move a couple of wires around and replace the tone cap. After servicing the electrics, I checked pickup output and noticed the Humbucker had a short, so have replaced for a similar spec Humbucker from my parts bin and now have a balanced output.
Full deep clean and conditioning of the previously dry fretboard, with frets polished for superior smooth playability. Setup with Rotosound 9-42" 0.15" relief at the 5th fret. Full Body deep clean and polish 🎸
Like most budget guitars - this Squier would benefit from new nut/fret level etc, it's sometimes a better and more cost effective option to do the jobs that need immediate attention, and this Squier is now leagues above where it was, but could also be further improved if my client is looking at keeping this long term.
Happy with where everything is at for this young guitarist, and always good to aid the next generation of guitar gods 🤘🏻
